About Psychic TV

After the disbandment of Throbbing Gristle, Genesis P-Orridge founded Psychic TV in 1981 with Peter Christopherson and Alex Fergusson. Half-band half-vehicle for the creative outpourings for the occultist artist collective Thee Temple Ov Psychic Youth, Psychic TV remains one of the most influential, groundbreaking, and pleasantly weird bands of the 1980’s. Decidedly a step away from the avant-garde industrial noise of Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV experimented with psychedelic, punk, electronic music, acid house, and video art, and were particularly known for their intense and visceral live performances. The band also has an impressive creative lineage that includes cultural luminaries such as William S. Burroughs, Derek Jarman, and Timothy Leary, among others. The band put out a large collection of releases during the 1980’s, and in the mid 80’s, they prolifically managed to release fourteen albums within an eighteen-month period.

After breaking up in 1999, Genesis P-Orridge reformed the band as PTV3 in 2003 with New York artist and musician Edley ODowd (formerly of the legendary Toilet Boys), and they worked together to create a new vision and voice for Psychic TV. The result has been over a decade-long run of concerts and releases as Psychic TV / PTV3. During this time, the band released two full-length albums Hell Is Invisible…Heaven Is Her/e and Mr. Alien Brain vs. The Skinwalkers, along with a handful of conceptual EP’s and singles. In addition to releasing the band’s second full-length album in 2008, Dais has also made the entire back catalog of Psychic TV / PTV3 available digitally, much of which is available for the first time ever in a digital format outside of the band’s USB stick, an edition of 320 which came out in 2014 via Angry Love Productions.
