About "Live From Bombay"

"In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt it important to find a way to perform songs from New Signs of Life in a live context. We had previously spent some time around the Salton Sea, and found Bombay Beach in particular to have a sort of chaotic allure. It's in a state of permanent environmental decline, harsh and alien. Our friend Sonia made sure we had a place to sleep whilst filming the performance, and has a wealth of knowledge regarding the area - having moved there as a child in the 1960s, when it was being marketed as the Californian Riviera. The video itself was directed and shot by Travis Waddell, who's become a frequent collaborator. Andy Oswald and Colin Knight figured out how best to record everything live - no small feat for such an oppressive landscape."

Following their 2017 debut, Standing at the Edge of the World, and follow-up single “Echoes,” Death Bells left their hometown of Sydney for the United States. Energized by impulse, extensive touring and exploration led to the formation of an ambitious six-piece band that eventually coalesced as a collaboration between founding members Will Canning and Remy Veselis. With Canning and Veselis becoming the engine, Death Bells began to employ several underground mainstay musicians to complete their live presentation, including Cortland Gibson (Dock Hellis), Colin Knight (Object of Affection), and on occasion Brian Vega (Fearing).

Revitalized and centered, Death Bells released the single “Around the Bend” in 2019, before workshopping material that would eventually comprise their second full-length effort. As much as Standing at the Edge of the World was an energized disclosure informed by fresh naivete, New Signs of Life and the new Live from Bombay Cassette harness those initial sparks, cloaking the threads of Death Bells with authority.
